Erika Klütz Schule für Theatertanz und Tanzpädagogik
unearth:undertone
Anniversary performance marking 80 years of existence
To mark its 80th anniversary, the Erika Klütz School for Theater Dance and Dance Education is presenting the anniversary performance unearth:undertone. Founded in Hamburg in 1946 by Erika Klütz, the school continues to train dance educators as a state-recognized vocational school.
The performance is created through a democratic choreographic process. Eight choreographers and a video artist work together with students from all three training classes as well as former graduates of the school. The starting point is the work with movement choirs, as developed by Rudolf von Laban, Mary Wigman, and Erika Klütz, which continues to live on at the school to this day.
Inspired by the story of Orpheus and Eurydice, the choreography draws on characters and archetypal narrative structures from Greek mythology. Orpheus appears as an artistic figure of sound—a character in whom body, music, and meaning interact. The musical composition, curated by a former student of the school, forms the framework for this choreographic work.
unearth:undertone focuses on the relationship between humans and nature and on the question of how the past, present, and future can remain connected—not as a fixed narrative, but as a movement in trust.
