The Tanztriennale will open with an impressive triple bill by the Ballet de Lorraine, consisting of three works by renowned choreographers of different generations in dance history. Jan Martens’ TURNING BURNING (2016) celebrates the icons of postmodern and minimalist dance, such as Lucinda Childs and Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker.

Twyla Tharp’s THE FUGUE takes us back to the avant-garde energy of 1970s New York. Inspired by Bach’s “Musikalisches Opfer”, the choreography itself becomes the score.

In A FOLIA, Marco da Silva Ferreira explores ecstasy, joy, and trance in the shared dance moment, inspired by 15th-century Portuguese folk dance of the 15th century he connects tradition with modern club dances. Together, the three works celebrate the multifaceted nature of dance, bridging different dance traditions and our present.
