In dialogue with the expansive paintings by visual artist Katharina Grosse, presented as part of her exhibition “Wunderbild” at the Deichtorhallen, two dancers improvise a moving duet inspired by Doherty’s ensemble piece NAVY BLUE. They use the working method “Strings” developed by the choreographer – a form of contemporary dance improvisation based on surrender. The result is sporadic and unexpected bursts of movement, “like in one of Grosse’s paintings,” as Doherty describes it.
