The ceremonial groundbreaking traditionally marks the symbolic beginning of a construction project – a moment poised between vision and realization, ritual and departure. At Kampnagel, the GROUNDBREAKING also marks the first of the so-called Big Moments: a series of key milestones in the construction process that will be opened to the public and accompanied by artistic interventions. For the GROUNDBREAKING, we have invited Hamburg-based music theatre director and composer Daniel Dominguez Teruel to stage and reflect upon this unique moment. Daniel Dominguez Teruel has a keen sensitivity to the power of symbols and their representation. His work repeatedly explores the social and political dimensions of rituals, as well as the sonic and spatial logics inherent in architecture. For the GROUNDBREAKING, he is creating a new ritual that artistically frames, comments on, and expands the ceremonial act of departure and new beginnings. In this way, the symbolic beginning of the construction process itself becomes the subject of artistic inquiry. Featuring speeches by Minister of State for Culture and the Media Dr. Wolfram Weimer, Hamburg’s Minister of Culture Dr. Carsten Brosda, the Managing Director of Sprinkenhof GmbH Martin Sowinski, the architects Lacaton & Vassal, Kampnagel Artistic Director Amelie Deuflhard and Commercial Managing Director Dr. Jonas Zipf.
