The physical demolition itself becomes the monumental stage for the second BIG MOMENT, opening a new chapter in Kampnagel’s performance history. As part of the first construction phase, Hall k1 will be restored to its original scale. Partition walls are removed, exposing the site’s historical layers – from its industrial past and four decades of performance history to its future transformation. The former black-box theatre becomes a daylight-filled hall for experimental arts with direct access to the garden. As rigid spatial boundaries are dismantled, the architecture becomes newly accessible, negotiating the deconstruction of barriers at the very moment of their physical collapse. The construction site provides a striking setting for Berlin-based artist Göksu Kunak, who, during a residency, transforms this moment of rupture into a choreographic and sonic intervention. Under the working title SUSPENSION the building site becomes a contemporary dispositif in which bodies, labour and desire continuously produce one another. Using perforation – the cutting, opening and occupying of space – as an artistic method, Kunak temporarily disempowers architecture to reveal new social relations. Through evocative imagery and a precise sensitivity to material encounters, the erotic potential of the construction site is translated into a fragile yet monumental aesthetic. Demolition thus becomes a powerful metaphor for the deconstruction of masculinity.
