In the docufictional extended reality performance STEP CLOSER, the audience themselves become performers, immersing in the memories of a refugee and a border officer. Both have experienced physical and psychological limits - now they encounter one another. What remains of these experiences? And is an encounter truly possible? The directing duo TÒ SU, Martina Mahlknecht & Martin Prinoth - scales the European debate on security and exclusion down to the human level of personal destinies, inviting two participants at a time into an immersive setting with VR headsets to interactively adopt each other’s perspectives.
