1GUH WATCH brings the powerful energy of dancehall culture to the stage with internationally acclaimed stars of the scene and celebrates the creativity and unity, the emotions, struggles and successes that underlie the expression of the dance style. Dancehall is a social movement, a form of resistance and identity, a culture. Originating in the economically disadvantaged neighbourhoods of Jamaica, dancehall stands for an anti-colonial stance. Therefore, 1GUH WATCH also deals with questions about the place of Black social dances in white Western institutions and the tensions between what is considered art or culture.
