Dambudzo
In DAMBUDZO, Nora Chipaumire creates an immersive installation of sound, sculpture, and live performance, offering a space for radical, participatory possibilities of decolonization.
The title, translated from Shona as “Trouble”, draws on the ideas of influential African thinkers and connects them with Chipaumire's own experiences, current political realities, and resistance against (neo-)colonial power structures. At the center is a Zimbabwean “Shabini”. It is an informal bar set up in private homes, where people come together to imagine possibilities of resistance and insurrection against political powers.
nora chipaumire searches for a language beyond words and uses movement as a personal and universal means of communication. Thus, a multi-layered space for encounters is created, which invites us to think together about freedom and to design new, possible worlds.
