‘A performance that combines trance states with the rhythmic roar of wild female cats’. That’s how Moroccan choreographer Bouchra Ouizguen describes her overwhelming show, CORBEAUX. In the room, Moroccan women cover themselves in black robes and white headscarves, appearing both striking and classic. In constant repetitions and modulations, they pass through communal movements and loud articulations, rising up to an eruption of vigorous primal screams. In her work, Ouizguen always comes back to the subject of the social significance of femininity; CORBEAUX is a variation on the themes that fascinate her: your roots, instinct, a connection to your mother, to the Earth and to love. As part of the WE DON'T CONTEMPORARY Festival, Bouchra Ouizguen will also present her most recent piece, OTTOF.
