With Dasha Ilina and Réka Gál (CA/HU), media theorist, McLuhan Centre for Culture and TechnologyIn From Digital Dualism to Space Colonization: The Conundrum Tech Solutionism and Care in Hybrid Spaces, Dasha Ilina will discuss her work dealing with concept of mindfulness as it permiates between digital and in real life environments and how this has played out in internet culture from the 1990s until now –– Réka Gál will share her work into the Politics of Care in the Shadow of Space Colonization how technological tools and scientific methods are employed to purportedly solve socio-political problems.

Réka Gál (CA/HU) is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Information at University of Toronto and a Fellow at the McLuhan Centre for Culture and Technology. Her work unites feminist media theory, decolonial technoscience, and environmental history to explore how technological tools and scientific methods are employed to purportedly solve socio-political problems. Presently she investigates outer space colonial initiatives, focusing on the implications of human-machine interdependence in outer space as it relates to issues of sustainability and environmental justice.The event will be held in English.
