With a piece that blurs the line between theatre and installation, Dutch artist Dries Verhoeven creates a disconcerting interplay between audience and performers, everyday reality and art. In CECI N’EST PAS… he spends ten days confronting passers by in Spitaler Straße with various tableaux vivants, images of the edges of society, which do not normally appear in the shopping iconography of the shop window and advertising. Following in the footsteps of the freak shows and human exhibitions of the last century, he moves icons of weakness, imperfection and fears back into the public field of vision, replacing the beautiful, calm and healthy. The performances will run daily in 15 minute cycles, between 3pm and 8pm.

Each day a different image is displayd in a glass vitrine at Spitaler Street between 3pm and 8pm. A blog accompanies the project and summarizes each day with video-footage, texts and interviews with passersby (click HERE).
