Gabber Eleganza / Terrorrythmus

At a speed of over 180 beats per minute and with over-modulated sounds reminiscent of a hellish suburban construction site, gabber and hardcore are among the most extreme subcategories of electronic dance music. For some time now, the genre – which mostly emerged in Rotterdam in the 1990s, along with the »hakke« dance and the techno-skinhead style – has been experiencing a considerable comeback. Jumpstyle, which the group (LA)HORDE explores in its piece TO DA BONE, also has its origins in this subculture. One of the most vigorous gabber proponents of the moment is Italian DJ Gabber Eleganza, who also runs an eponymous web archive about the post-rave aesthetic to the delight of music and fashion junkies around the world. Other artists on this intense evening are Terrorrythmus, who stylishly combines gabber with modern juke and footwork (which can also be heard in Jlin’s music for Wayne McGregor’s dance piece AUTOBIOGRAPHY) and Pelle Buys, Hamburg DJ veteran and expert of all things fast-paced.
