Positioning ourselves

Kampnagel carries a reputation of being ‘diverse’ and engaged in social justice issues. We wish to use that position to try and find and tackle all the areas that still leave room for improvement through self-critical analysis and exchange with visitors, artists and all those working in culture. In practice, that means that we consistently question routine processes and attempt to find new ways not only for, but with those who will use them. Kampnagel also wishes to weigh in on questions of cultural politics and to serve as a platform for activism.

Hiring Policy

We explicitly encourage disabled people, people of all nationalities, queer people, people of color and black people to apply. Having the diversity of society represented in a space like Kampnagel is important to us. We also promote equality of all genders and reconsilability of family life and work.

Networks and Cooperations

Developing ourselves to us also means connecting with experts locally and globally. We’re therefore in consistent exchange with visitors and artist with various disabilities and with the local associations in Hamburg. We’re also a part of the project KULTUR PLUS. In 2019, Kampnagel along with many theatre makers and institutions founded the nationwide network “aesthetics off access” (working title). In a European context, Kampnagel is in touch with six partners as part of the network Europe Beyond Access.

Here's another tip for culture enthusiasts in Hamburg: The website kulturperlen.hamburg always lists the latest tips for accessible or low-barrier cultural venues and cultural events in Hamburg.
