The Gym: Les Chercheurs mit La Fleur

In the film, which was made parallel to the rehearsals of the piece of the same name, Ordinateur - also known as magic feet - gathers young dancers who, like him, have come to Europe from various African countries to start anew in Paris and other European cities. It is a struggle with risks and unpredictable situations, involving not only their dance careers but the whole organisation of their lives, which can hardly be planned before departure. In their home countries and on the African continent they were already legends of urban dance, in Europe they have to find a balance between contact with the African diaspora and entering the European dance scene. The progress and mobility of African dancers is often hindered by migration policies and the sometimes racist or ignorant attitude of European societies towards the specific qualities of the various African dances. With high-level choreography and texts about their strategies, they approach these issues in LES CHERCHEURS. The film screening will be followed by a discussion.
