Fassbinder tells the story of Jorgos, a Greek immigrant working for a businesswoman called Elisabeth. While the women are intrigued by the ‘foreign worker’, the men in their lives are consumed with xenophobia, animosity and sexual jealousy. Their frustration about their own boring lives eventually presents itself as violence towards the ‘foreigner’. Fassbinder wrote this play in 1969. It is a story about radicalisation, which still resonates today.
