The failure of the revolution in Tunisia has left the country with many questions about what scope is still left for action. The civil society is still in the process of development, searching for common ground to unite the many different voices in the country. For years Aïcha M’Barek and Hafiz Dhaou have also been developing a specific grammar in order to undermine the censorship of the former regime. For their new piece, SACRÉ PRINTEMPS! they have edited this language of movement under the omen of the Arab spring and invited various musicians into the studio, including Sonia M’Barek, one of the country’s best-known female singers, in order to express Tunisia’s many voices. In the distant echo of Stravinksy’s ‘The Rite of Spring’, the choreography duo resolutely proclaim their rite of spring and stay true to their inimitable style and special flair for choreographic phrasing. M’Barek and Dhaou have a clear message: ‘Let’s liberate the spring!’
