Ania Nowak
FUTURE TONGUEXXX
Futuristic feminist Summer Festival debut about the influence of algorithms and AI on our most intimate relationships and the utopian potential of bodies and language.
Ania Nowak has garnered widespread attention across Europe with her work exploring vulnerability and desire in both visual art and theater. The Polish artist, based in Berlin, has exhibited at venues including the Baltic Triennial and the KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin. Since 2018, she has been touring her stage performance FUTURE TONGUES, which premiered at the Nowy Teatr in Warsaw. In this piece, she intertwines the story of the Tower of Babel with the science fiction porn film “Café Flesh”, depicting a postapocalyptic order where sex is staged before a passive audience. Eight years after the premiere of this work—an exploration of a radically transformed future of human communication—Nowak revisits and further develops the piece at the invitation of the Summer Festival. She examines how analogue intimacy coexists amid algorithmic systems, artificial intelligence, and digital platforms that profoundly shape our interpersonal relationships. With FUTURE TONGUEXXX, she creates a performance that opens a fragile yet resilient space, where language defies categorization and remains sensually contradictory. This new version serves as a plea against standardization and political fantasies of purity—and for the body and encounter as the last languages of the future.
