The death of the internet’s most famous feline, »Grumpy Cat«, in May 2019 was a global event, and social media were flooded with viral condolence GIFs and RIP messages. The most popular cat videos are emblematic of social media’s new regime of images and represent a new form of escapism. Hamburg-based choreographers Annika Scharm and Hannah Wischnewski confront this phenomenon in their newest work, which examines these new digital companions – a seemingly permanent fixture in the internet age.
