RUBBISH: A DEVICE is a room installation, a party, entertainment and rubbish. RUBBISH is information, too much and too little, performance, personal experience, visions of the future and a scenario of destruction. A fleeting situation, a collective of human and non-human actors in time. Like dirt or dust that does not obey the force of gravity and appears in space. The device deals with production, not only that of art and evaluation, not only that of rubbish. Nature has no system that obeys human logic, even if ecology seems to suggest that. Investigations by environmental historians can also show through geological analysis, that our suspicions in ancient times have already made a lot of dirt. The complaints about this are equally old. Also if the idea of passivity of matter has become outdated over hundreds of years, since relativity and quantum physics, we still haven’t left behind our mechanistic world view, it provides us with common sense. RUBBISH: A DEVICE does not depict reality, rather it works on better representations of the truth. Over three days you are invited to time-transcending performances, lectures, films and wanderings.
