Ben Frost has composed the soundtrack for the Netflix hit »Dark,« written operas for the Royal Opera House, and exhibited in art spaces. The live concerts of the Australian musician, who resides in Iceland, are defined by this background: Frost creates immersive soundscapes that are expansive, dynamic, and physically captivating, transforming the act of listening to music into a transcendental experience. At Kampnagel, he presents his sixth studio album »Scope Neglect« (Mute Records), which was created with mathcore guitarist Greg Kubacki from the band Car Bomb and noise bassist Liam Andrews. Frost skeletonizes their brutal metal guitar riffs onto electronic foundations and intertwines them with synthesizer fanfares, recordings of sperm whales, and other field recordings. »Not a spectacle but spectacular« (WDR) is this musical borderline experience, as stirring as it is meditative – and further proof that Ben Frost is the undisputed »mastermind of experimental, challenging instrumental music« (laut.de).
The evening will begin with a concert by Black To Comm aka Marc Richter, one of Hamburg's most versatile artists and musicians. He has recently won the music video award at the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, and has also released his new album "At Zeenath Parallel Heavens" on Thrill Jockey. Over the course of 20 years, has pushed the limits of and merged the aesthetics of art, conceptual installations and music. His list of collaborations and commissions is extensive and impressive. For instance, at Kampnagel, he has collaborated with the award-winning visual artist Ho Tzu Nyen on Summer Festival productions. Richter's dark ambient compositions have an immediately captivating effect, opening up transcendental spaces that are as inviting as they are subtly unnerving. At Kampnagel, he will perform a live artwork of sound and video influenced by artificial intelligence.
