In their staged tours, conferences and fictional TV show, Boyzie Cekwana and Nina Støttrup Larsen look for answers regarding how to redress the legacy of colonialism. OJ Simpson and Oscar Pistorius’ legal trials were staged as public media spectacles. Is it possible to replace these global sporting icons with former colonial powers? What would happen if the stars and starlets of the 21st century came not from the reams of talentless beauty queens and musclemen, but from the ranks of European power? What would it be like if the courtroom was swapped for the public ordeal of a TV talk show, and procedures were initiated there for reparation payments for colonialism and slavery? Cekwana and Støttrup Larsen have developed a new version of their piece for WE DON’T CONTEMPORARY.

October 1st to october 3rd, starting 7pm: Together with Kampnagel Tunisian dance theorist and dramaturg Mariem Guellouz has put together a lecture programme that reflects the theory behind the themes of the festival and asks fundamental questions about post-colonialism, critically scrutinises the term ‘contemporary’ and delivers the latest findings on Afro-futurism.
