The security industry has been booming for years. The current pandemic makes this development even more visible, and so security people have become an integral part of our everyday lives. But what exactly is this security that is being demanded? What does it look like and who provides it? The bouncer, the store detective, the man in front of the supermarket: security is often associated with stereotypical images of masculinity. Yet it is precisely these masculinities that are in crisis, caught between precarious working conditions, social expectations and James Bond fantasies.
In SECURITY, the team led by Hamburg-based director and sound artist Christopher Ramm goes in search of fictions of security, masculinity and control together with men working in the security industry. Based on sixteen interviews, two security men, a dancer and a performer draw a multidimensional picture of protectors and their vulnerability. In the stage set of a dystopian parking lot between monuments of past times and the abstract horror scenarios of an economy on the verge of collapse, the search for a non-toxic performance of security, for its construction and contingency, is opened up.
