With “Cleopatra's Tomb”, author and “Tagesschau” presenter Constantin Schreiber has delivered a gripping crime thriller debut. This is what it's about: When the priest of the Church of St. Nicholas in Alexandria is found dead, it is not only the congregation that is in an uproar. Everything points to murder. But who or what is behind it - the mafia, a family dispute or the success-hungry archaeologist who seems to be looking for something in the city's places of worship and is a thorn in the side of many? Young detective Theodora Costanda is entrusted with the case and encounters a wall of silence in her investigations, partly due to her role as an outsider - as a woman, as a member of the Greek minority, as a Christian. But she doesn't give up and uncovers an ancient covenant that seeks to preserve one of the greatest secrets of antiquity - at all costs. A well-researched, cleverly constructed and extremely exciting story.
