MACHO DANCER
Past dates
Macho Dancing is a form of erotic dance that is mainly practiced in gay bars in the Philippines in front of an audience that’s willing to pay. Young men move to power ballads and soft rock in a hyper-stylised form of masculinity – they let their hips slowly gyrate and present their muscles. For her solo, MACHO DANCER, visual artist and choreographer Eisa Jocson has appropriated this style of movement and crafted it into a performance. In the transfer to her (female) body, gender images blur and the mechanics of this economical physical performance become visible. The performance is part of the conference FANTASIES THAT MATTER.
