Choreographer and long-time soloist at the Hamburg ballet, Natalia Horecna sees an ‘enlightened child’ in Canadian composer Claude Vivier. Vivier’s heritage as a foundling resonates with this idea, as well as his lifelong search for spiritual growth, which is reflected in works including the glistening Hölderlin scoring ‘Where are you, Light!’ or ‘Zipangu’, which was inspired by a trip to Japan. From Vivier’s music, Horecna has connected a kind of melodic life cycle, which the State Youth Ballet fulfils with dynamic movement. The ensemble resonates with the music and the solo part will be taken on by charismatic opera singer Allison Cook.
