Established at the French court and directly linked to the monarchical state as an art form by Louis XIV, classical ballet took on the role of an unyielding ruler in the family of dance. But the migrants of dance are shaking the regime; the time of the monarchy is long gone. Franck Edmond Yao invites dancers from four different disciplines to a confrontation: classical ballet, contemporary dance, urban dances and traditional African styles. With movements that absorb and deconstruct each other, they tear down the categories of our perception of dance. By breaking boundaries through dance, learning from each other, copying and transforming, Yao and his accomplices overthrow several regimes at once.
