Garth Erasmus is an artist and musician from Cape Town, South Africa. He is a founding member of the pioneering band Khoi Khonnexion, which, along with the band Kante, presented the music theater production "The House of Falling Bones" at the 2018 Summer Festival. This collaboration also led to an exhibition at the Kunsthaus Hamburg in 2022. Garth Erasmus identifies himself as Khoi, positioning himself as a descendant of people from a pre-colonial era, transcending distinctions based on ethnicity or race. He re-appropriates indigenous knowledge by transforming the Khoisan bow instrument, central to his work and found in ethnological museums, into an electrified hypermodern tool. "Threnody for the KhoiSan," the inaugural solo album on Stefan Schneider's label TAL, has been officially released. This remarkable experimental piece of sound art blurs the lines between avant-garde and free jazz, effectively transforming indigenous knowledge into musical expression. The album will be brought to life in a live performance at Kampnagel, featuring Stefan Schneider, Kante frontman Peter Thissen, and artist Ruth May, among others.
