The first Hamburg Seawomen*parade sets a sign for feminist perspective on sea and port.

In recent years, female and non-binary artists, activists and researchers have taken to the water on all seven seas and also in Hamburg. They campaign for a right to port, for the recovery of water as a public space, for sea rescue, fair trade, for the reappraisal of colonial structures and against the destruction of maritime habitats. The patriarchal history of the sea is not a maritime adventure, but one marked by war, colonialism and exploitation. The port of Hamburg is also part of this patriarchal tradition, and HPA, Eurogate, Hapag Lloyd and many boat club continue to be male-dominated. Is there an alternative, feminist perspective on sea and port? The 1st Hamburg Sea Women* Parade is intended to set an example. Get the synchronized swimming relays and the flares ready!

The 1st Hamburg Seawomen* Parade is initiated by the Hamburg collective geheimagentur in the context of the project »Women of the Seven Seas«. With the alternative cruise terminal AKT, geheimagentur has already been a guest at the International Summer Festival in 2015, with PORTS in 2016, and FREE PORT Baakenhöft in 2017, advocating for a right to the sea and the port. With the »Women of the Seven Seas« project, geheimagentur brings together artists and researchers and seawomen* from all over the world, initially online on the online platform of the same name. On August 8th from 14:00 - 18:00, the platform will be launched with a series of maritime feminist dialogues. And on August 22nd, they will parade through the waterways of Hamburg with the Sea Women Parade.

The 1st Hamburg Sea Women's Parade will take place on August 22 from 3 to 7 p.m. It can be followed on the Seefrauenfunk / radio livestream: womenofthesevenseas.net/radio.At 3 p.m. there will be coffee and cake. Landlubbers are welcome at the feminist ship welcoming facility at Strandkai (Großer Grasbrook 19) from 3 p.m. and at the Binnenhafen / Kehrwider from 4.15 p.m. for the intermediate rally, or a bike ride in the Hansahafen at 6:30 p.m.
