Lawyer Valentino Bruio is in a precarious situation. The bar association is threatening to disbar him, he is broke and has just turned away a black immigrant who told him about his child in need.He is simply fed up with losers as clients. But when he learns that the man has been killed, Bruio finds himself in a moral crisis. Together with friends from Rome's black community, he begins an investigation. It leads him to the villa of the powerful Alga-Croce family. The confrontation with the enigmatic patriarch Noè opens his eyes to the greed for power and boundless amorality of the upper class. However, his affection for the daughter of the house presents Bruio with a dilemma.

In “Black as the Heart”, Giancarlo De Cataldo once again proves himself to be a clear-sighted analyst of corrupt Italian society.
