Monika Gintersdorfer and Knut Klaßen – long time regulars at Kampnagel and a constant presence on the international performance scene – embark on a search for subversion in a Congolese record shop, which is still setting trends for the entire African continent. Rarely has a government opted for such an individual style of representation, in which tender songs blatantly contradict brutal surveillance and exploitative policies, as African politician Mobutu does. He chooses Congolese music and traditional dance as the central elements of his propaganda machine. The two Ivorian singers and dancers in MOBUTU CHOREOGRAFIERT (MOBUTU CHOREOGRAPHS), Gadoukou La Star and SKelly, address the power struggle in Congolese Dinozord (Kinshasound). The actor PapyMbwit, the son of Mobutu’s translator, analyses the political rhetoric while choreographer Jochen Roller and actor Hauke Heumann hold the clash of performers together with full-on physicality.
