»A Sensation« (nachtkritik.de): Gisèle Vienne, artist and on-stage specialist for mental abysses, presents a disturbingly delightful chamber play with actresses Adèle Haenel and Ruth Vega Fernandez.

With her party-in-slow-motion choreography CROWD at the 2018 Summer Festival, Gisèle Vienne created a milestone in recent dance history, which afterwards was also turned into a feature film. Three years later, the French-Austrian stage artist, who studied philosophy, music and puppetry, returns to Hamburg with a psychoactive chamber play. In the text by Robert Walser, which the latter wrote in Bernese dialect and Vienne directs in French, a boy fakes his suicide because he feels unloved. Vienne zooms into the boy's head, blurring monologue and dialogue, showing how the self dissolves in an emotional frenzy and reality blurs. As with CROWD, in DER TEICH (THE POND) Vienne again creates a complex psychogram using the tools of theater: the variation of movement tempos, trance-like use of light, and a spacey psychoacoustic by her longtime collaborator, drone-metal demigod Stephen O'Malley. What makes the evening a »sensation« (nachtkritik.de) even more, are its two protagonists: on stage are Adèle Haenel (»Portrait of a Lady on Fire«) and Swedish-Spanish film and theater actress Ruth Vega Fernandez.
