Hans Wurst: Hans Wurst is back
Past dates
In 1737, the historical theatrical character of Hans Wurst became the victim of the middle class intelligentsia aka the ‘theatre police’. His bawdy jokes were banned from the stage, even though he had Gotthold Ephraim Lessing defending him. Many generations later, young performer Mirko Thiele has made it his mission to bring this figure back to the German stage, and has declared war on middle class city theatre in the process.
