EN Before construction begins, things are cleared away: More than 40 years of international avant-garde have shaped the Kampnagel halls. What remains of a place that is constantly reinventing itself? To explore this question, the Kampnagel Förderverein invites to an auction. Starting this autumn, Kampnagel will undergo renovation under the direction of the Pritzker Prize–winning architectural duo Lacaton & Vassal, following their guiding principle: KEEP, REPAIR, ADD. Throughout the multi-year construction phase, parts of the halls will continue to host performances. Up to 20 objects will go under the hammer, including unique artistic works, technical artifacts, and iconic remnants from past Summer Festival moments: a signed photograph, a piece of a Pina Bausch stage set, a Joseph Beuys oak sapling, or the legendary festival swing — all speak of Kampnagel as a place of experimentation and encounter. Those who place a bid won’t just take home an object, but a piece of memory, while also supporting the future of this place.
