In the New York docks, close to the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, legal and illegal migrants are seeking their fortune. But the hope offered by the gold-paved streets of the West only ends in betrayal and murder. Ivo van Hove, who has also staged productions in London, Amsterdam and on Broadway, takes this social-realist play and finds a tragedy with ancient impact, retelling the myth of a paradise lost. This production marks the German debut of ‘Odéon – Théâtre de L’Europe’, the institution founded by Giorgio Strehler and currently directed by Stéphane Braunschweig.
