Katja Riemann is not only one of Germany's most renowned actresses but has also been a UNICEF ambassador since 2000. Among other activities, she supports Amnesty International, advocates for refugees, and has recently published »Zeit der Zäune« (Time of Fences, S. Fischer Verlag), a book about the refuge locations that Riemann has visited and which she will now present as a reading in German. With empathy and meticulous attention to detail, she recounts the stories of the individuals in the refugee camps on Lesbos and in Jordan. She reports from Calais after the so-called »jungle« was destroyed, visits the Spanish enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla, accompanies doctors through the night on the Bosnian-Croatian border, and joins traumatologists in the Yazidi camps in northern Iraq. »Zeit der Zäune« sheds light on individual people referred to as »refugees« and opposes the diminishing attention given to the issue of migration in the context of current European politics of exclusion.
