Species affiliation isn’t what it used to be. Scientific discoveries mean that intelligence, the use of tools, language, creativity – factors that have always been used to prove that humanity is unique – have been called into question in recent decades. The ZOO 3000 conference takes up the challenge and asks: What does it mean for our thoughts, loves and struggles to live in a multi-species world? Philosophers, cultural experts and humanities scholars will come to Hamburg for the weekend to discuss the consequences of the following two theses: ‘Zoology is a continuation of politics by different means’ and ‘Animals are not lesser people, rather different worlds!’ What does this mean for questions of co-existence with animals and animalistic resistance? What are the outlines of a zootropolis?
