A subtle, poetic theater evening with six teenagers that explores the magical moment of transition into adulthood.
In FUTURE LOVERS, six digital natives who were born after 2000 and grew up in post-crisis Spain spend an evening at a campfire in a forest somewhere on the edge of a large metropolis. The events on stage are the lucid memories of a grown woman looking back to a summer evening shortly before she left school and perhaps also this city, an evening in which she danced, listened to music, fooled around, drank and contemplated her future with her friends.
For over 10 years, the La Tristura theater collective has been perfecting a defiant aesthetic that blends visualand musical poetry with documentary text, and, alongside groups like La Veronal and El Conde de Torrefiel, has brought Spanish theater into the present. Over months, they developed FUTURE LOVERS’ script together with the young performers. They stage their personal thoughts so matter-of-factly and intimately that the audience seems like a part of the group. A subtle, contemporary poetry emerges from the series of everyday conversations and social interactions, drawing the audience into the short, magical moment in life in which everything still seems possible.
