Manuel Muerte

After killing off the ‘Schwebenden Diwan’ (‘The floating divan’) last season, Hamburg magician Manuel Muerte presents a brand new format: a séance, in which he calls upon the spirits of the dead. The demands of post-colonial theory are innovatively intertwined with pop culture phenomena and spiritualist sessions in THE TALKING DEAD. Guests, both dead and alive, will examine socially relevant but underexposed topics in their full complexity. Entertainment and knowledge production are combined into one format through subversive performance strategies. Manuel Muerte has gained international recognition as a magician and his shows are a successful mixture of magic and slapstick, which constantly betray the illusion and yet still remain inscrutable. It is our great honour to be able to welcome star guests to the first edition – Freud, Lenin or Marie Curie.
