A play that’s like a good anthology film about forgotten utopias and the implementability of political ideals in everyday life.
In his new work, Argentinian theater maker Mariano Pensotti masterfully combines puppetry with theater and film to create an evening with the suggestive power of a good movie. It centers on three women whose lives have been affected by the consequences of the 1917 Russian Revolution in different ways. Without losing himself in historical details, he undertakes a contemporary examination of century-old ideas and looks at their relevance for our era. Events from one episode lead to changes in the life of the character in the ensuing one, as protagonists encounter their own reflections in the stories of the others. Pensotti who was most recently at Summer Festival 2014 with his impressive stage work CINEASTAS, is one of his generation’s most important theatrical re-inventors and tours the world with his works. With BURNING BRIGHT IN THE FOREST OF THE NIGHT he simultaneously creates an appeal for the power of art and storytelling – and a smart analysis of current societies as a reflection of past utopias.
