Mark Ernestus' Ndagga Rhythm Force

Mark Ernestus’ Ndagga Rhythm Force is a collaboration between Berlin (dub-)techno pioneer and Hardwax founder Mark Ernestus and eight musicians from Senegal. It includes some of that country’s best musicians, including drummers Bada Seck and Modou Mbaye and guitarist Assane Ndoye Cisse. The music is centered around the repetitive sound of the sabar drum. The airy and trance-y West African polyrhythms are blended with an electronic aesthetic to create global club music for the 21st century. Its collision with techno sounds highlights the latter’s origins in African-American music and gives the genre exciting impulses for its continued evolution.
