Migrantpolitan

The MIGRANTPOLITAN is a place, a laboratory and a meeting point where new formats of collaboration, co-living and co-celebrating are tested and developed. A place in which the social classification of »refugee« and »local« are abandoned and its actors develop shared cosmopolitan visions. Throughout the festival, the Migrantpolitan opens its doors and will shine as the festival core with an extensive program, put together by curator Anas Aboura.

SOLICASINO In proper Summer Festival tradition, the first weekend will include a Solicasino – THE event for good moods and changing one’s perspectives: If you lose, someone else always wins. The Solicasino all-stars are also on hand, offering a carefree package of meaningful late-night entertainment: poker, frog-tennis, bingo, a raffle, puzzles and much more! The be loved »top or flop« with Buster (yes, from Komet) will be on site.

KONZERT: FUSIONATION Fusionation is a Hamburg-based band with members from Ethiopia, Indonesia and Syria that fuses the global language of jazz with different styles and musical cultures. The event transitions into a jam session.

WORKSHOP: KURDISCHE VOLKSTÄNZE
An open dance workshop exploring the rich tradition of folk dances from the Kurdish territories of the Middle East. Participants meet in front of the Mi- grantpolitan and receive a practical in- troduction to the region’s different folk dances, accompanied by original music. On the second day, a small performance by the participants will take place.

The artist and performer studied sculpture at the Arts Academy, later studied Stage Design at the Higher Institute of Theater, and now is completing his master's thesis on Fine Arts and Performing Arts at the Art Academy Saarbrücken.

#MYESCAPE
A presentation of short performances by local artists, which were developed over the last weeks at the Migrantpolitan, followed by a screening of the documentary #MyEscape by Elke Sasse (90min, 2016). The film gathers different stories of escape to Europe, told by its protagonists with the help of mobile phone videos. The evening ends with a party.

FIESTA IBEROAMERICANA! The Migranpolitan invites you to an Ibero-American party. Dance to Latin American music by Morín and electrocumbia DJ Arepabahn. Other highlights include a flamenco show by Paco Hallak Band and an exclusive selection of drinks, with classics like pisco sour and tinto de verano.

NEW MEDIA SOCIALISM PRESENTS: DIE HELLO DEUTSCHLAND - DIE EINWANDERER BINGE-WATCHING-PYJAMA-GALA
It doesn’t get any more exclusive than this: The red carpet is being rolled out for the protagonists of the speculative reality show »Hello Deutschland – Die Einwanderer« (Hello Germany – the immigrants). For the first time, all 10 episodes (the complete first season) of the successful real-life doku soap are being shown one after the other – five hours of deluxe empowertainment with the entire team in attendance! Also: The premiere of the final cut of episode 10 – a »director’s cut«, so to speak. Put on your negligee, get on the sofa and open your eyes!

BOY DIVISION: BRINGING HOME THE BACON – RELEASE PARTY When the band Boy Division celebrated its 20th birthday last year, a »Day of Music« took place in the Summer Festival garden and the Migrantpolitan, showcasing the group’s first appearance as a five-person unplugged band. About one year later, the time has come: the five classy members of Boy Division – once again reunited with their ex-bassist Boy Andi – are celebrating their new release, »Bringing Home the Bacon«, on the reputed Glitterhouse label. There’s more: with the moderation of Harry Carrera, the boys will present various »gags« and some quiz questions in the early evening, take you on a »cinematic trip around the world« and, for the first time, you might be able to shoot ducks. Getting down to business takes a new form in »single advices (also) for couples«.
