The Summer Festival has commissioned six artistic works to guide visitors through Hamburg's Dieter Roth Museum via audio guides.

Swiss artist Dieter Roth shaped the 20th century with an extensive body of work that includes drawings, paintings and sculptures, as well as sound art, film and texts. Significant Roth works, including chocolate sculptures, mold paintings and instrument reliefs, are on view at Hamburg's Dieter Roth Museum, which the artist established in a multi-story private home here during his lifetime and is now overseen by the Dieter Roth Foundation. Like other Swiss festival artists Thom Luz (»Songs without Words«) and Christoph Marthaler, who opens the summer festival with a production of Dieter Roth texts, Roth has artistically processed everyday life with subtle humor and given music a crucial role - in his own recording studio or as part of the collective »Selten gehörte Musik.«

In cooperation with the Dieter Roth Foundation, the Summer Festival has now invited six artists from the fields of visual arts and music to engage with Roth's work in the form of artistic audio guides: visual artist Annika Kahrs, experimental musician Felix Kubin, artist Michaela Melián in conversation with artist Wolfgang Müller, sound artist Nika Son, and actors of Marthaler's Roth piece. Their audio works, which reflect Dieter Roth's diverse artistic practice and illustrate the continuing relevance of his work for contemporary art, can be heard exclusively during a tour of the Dieter Roth Foundation in Hamburg Harvestehude.

Nika Son is a musician, DJ, sound artist and sound designer in film. She curates her own event series at Golden Pudel Club and has been co-curator of Papiripar Festival since 2018.

Annika Kahrs is an installation, video and performance artist. In 2015, her work »Strings« was shown as part of the exhibition »Und weg mit den Minuten. Dieter Roth and the Music« at Hamburger Bahnhof Berlin.

Christoph Marthaler is considered one of the most important theater makers in German-speaking countries. His piece »Das Weinen (Das Wähnen)« – based on texts by Dieter Roth will have its German premiere from August 06-08 as part of the International Summer Festival.

Felix Kubin is a musician, sound researcher, composer and radio playwright. He runs the record label Gagarin Records and has curated the Papiripar Festival for experimental sound art since 2018.

Michaela Melián is an artist and musician. She is co-founder of the band F.S.K. and since 2010 professor for time-related media at the Hochschule für bildende Künste (HfbK) in Hamburg.

Wolfgang Müller is an artist, musician (among others with Die Tödliche Doris) and author. In 2006 he produced the radio play »Das Dieter Roth Orchester spielt kleine Wolken, typische Scheiße und nie gehörte Musik«. With Dieter Roth he shares also a passion for Iceland.
