Anyone who has always wondered what Brazilian tropicalismo sounds like if combined with Moroccan gnawa music, jazz from Ethiopia, a self-made pot guitar, and glass harp playing (i.e., rubbing drinking glasses) should listen to Os Barbapapas. The quartet from São Paulo named themselves after a quirky French cartoon family from the 70s and just released its second album on Staatsakt / Fun In The Church: "Enigma" is the name of this "food for the heart and soul" (WDR), which seems to have come from another galaxy to irradiate us with musical sunshine. Outernational music, "simply soothing in these times of madness" (radioeins).
