Coral, rocks, sea anemones, algae, fish: in the participative workshop performance GREAT BARRIER REEF, participants of all ages transform into parts of a coral reef in order to experience the organism of this huge biotope with their own bodies. GREAT BARRIER REEF transfers the unique diversity and beauty of a coral reef – and the relationships of its various life forms that are in a fragile balance and partially symbiotic – onto the wonder of human community.

Great Barrier Reef is a transgenerational participatory performance by the Helsinki-based Other Spaces Live Art collective. Join the adventure on the coral reef at Kampnagel on the 26th and 27th of May! Great Barrier Reef is a four-hour event composed of a workshop, a lunch and a performance created together with the participants. Our mutual task is to keep the reef alive! The Great Barrier Reef, located off the coast of Australia, is the world's largest, unique and threatened ecosystem. In the Great Barrier Reef performance we visit the coral reef without flying to far-off lands. In this experiential and participatory performance we form together a living and constantly changing bodily construction, a large human coral reef with all its creatures and organisms. This collective corporeal play will create a living sculpture and a constantly changing choreagraphy, in which the roles of children and adults mix in imaginative ways. The performance begins with a workshop, during which we learn how to form the underwater world of the coral reef together. The participants are simultaneously the viewers as well as the authors of the performance, they form and create the performance for themselves. No outside audience is present. On Monday the 28th of May the performance is accompanied by an Underwater Manifestation in the streets of Hamburg, where the corals express their concern of the state of the seas.Join us for an exploration to the underwater world, and bring your godson, niece, grandma, grandpa, cousin, neighbor or perhaps your own mom or dad with you.The perfomance is best suited for children over 6 years and adults of all ages. Children under 10 years must participate with an accompanying adult. Participants of all physical conditions are welcome to the Great Barrier Reef, previous experience is not needed for participation. The participants must inform their email address when purchasing their ticket. The Underwater Manifestation has free entry.
