»We must prepare for the time after capitalism« is written on billboards of a Federal Office for Crisis Protection and Economic Aid. There are rumours of calls by this Federal Office to large companies like RWE, known and spread via Twitter by Kai Diekmann, among others. The Ministry of Economics first suspects fraud, but then rows back.
Since August 5, it has become clear that Peng! media activists are behind this large-scale PHONE PRANK ON CAPITALISM. They say: »The COVID-19 pandemic is becoming the burning lens of our time: The climate crisis is in full swing and the economy is rushing towards a global recession like a meteorite. At the same time, inequality and economic and ecological exploitation systematically undermine social participation and the general welfare orientation of politics. However, the pandemic is creating space for a kind of global 'existentialist pause' for the first time – and we are taking this opportunity to ask fundamental questions about the system.
Peng! take the alternativeless shrug of politics as the starting point for their latest subversive prank: as a fake Federal Office for Crisis Protection and Economic Aid, they have held talks with CEOs and other executives of 10 German companies and asked: How do top levels of companies deal with terms like sufficiency economy, socialization, solidarity economy and post-growth economy? And how willing are companies to be more strongly regulated by the state? For the International Summer Festival at Kampnagel, the PHONE PRANK ON CAPITALISM will be presented as an installation at the Festival Avant-Garten. Visitors can watch a documentary of the project, and in a converted telephone booth, interviews with experts and sections of the conversations with companies and their reactions to new economic stimulus programs, visionary new economic systems, and the socialization of their companies.
Festival Avant-garden Information
This year, the festival garden designed by JASCHA&FRANZ will be as special as the summer festival: In Hamburg's pearl of art leisure parks, there will not only be installations, performances and culinary delights, but also a daily changing program on three open-air stages (details in the program overview). Due to the Corona-related capacity restrictions for events, entry tickets for the garden are sold at a symbolic price of 3 Euros in advance. For spontaneous visitors we'll additionally keep some available at the box office. The stage located on the piazza at the main entrance is free of charge, but requires a seat in the outside area of the Peacetanbul Restaurant. Ticket holders for another festival performance on the same evening may enter the garden free of charge - as long as there is enough capacity, otherwise there might be bridgeable waiting times.
