~55 is the debut piece by young choreographer Radouan Mriziga, who trained in Marrakech and Tunisia at P.A.R.T.S, and then studied under the guidance of star choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker in Brussels. ~55 shows in impressive fashion, how Mriziga has transferred these various artistic influences into a hybrid, personal language, settling between sobriety and sensuality, concept and physique, structure and feelings. Mriziga is responsible for everything on the stage: for the choreography, the sound and the lighting. The 55 minutes mentioned in the title, the number five and the bodies of the dancers are the parameters of the show. Fascinated by the movements of craftsmen, Mriziga uses his body like a tool to create a pattern on the ground. The emerging forms appear like an unavoidable consequence of the connection between his physicality and the space. Minimalism at its best – garnished with aesthetic and emotional pleasure in the ornamental. Tunisian choreographers Aïcha M’Barek and Hafiz Dhaou (with their pieces VU and SACRÉ PRINTEMPS!) recommended Radouan Mriziga’s piece for the WE DON'T CONTEMPORARY Festival and invited him to Hamburg.
