With BODY OF KNOWLEDGE the theater comes into your home: Connected with 11 spectators and 8 teenagers from Australia, a performance about the big and small questions of life and the future unfolds. The performance, BODY OF KNOWLEDGE, in which spectators inside the theatre room were connected via telephones with teenagers from all over the world and in the process built a stage set themselves, toured successfully on stages in Australia and Europe in 2019. Now, Australian artist Samara Hersch has created a version of her work in which viewers can connect with the young international cast from the comfort of their own homes: The spectators are digitally connected with each other via their own laptops. In addition, a package of props will be delivered to their home. And in intimate telephone conversations with teenagers from Australia, a moving dialogue unfolds between the generations, about sexuality, grief, boundaries, ageing and ideas of the future – which you can comfortably experience in your own home.
Samara Hersch recently completed her Masters at the renowned Das Theatre in Amsterdam. Her work WE ALL KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING about the history of the island Nauru off Australia, which was transformed from a natural paradise into a camp for refugees, was made together with Lara Thoms and 7 children from Melbourne and toured very successfully in Australia and Europe and received numerous awards, such as the Green Room Award for the Best Contemporary and Experimental Performance in Melbourne in 2016. The theatre version of BODY OF KNOWLEDGE, created in 2019 also toured very successfully in Europe and Australia. It got adapted into an ‘at home’ version for the presentation in pandemic times for the Züricher Theaterspektakel and the International Summer Festival Kampnagel.
