Selma Selman

»Mercedes Matrix« and »Self-Portrait 1 and 2« are performances in which Selma Selman destroys vacuum cleaners, washing machines and a Mercedes Benz in order to separate the valuable from the unusable parts, a typical survival strategy in the Roma community. Here the performative act becomes physical labor. Selma Selman addresses her family's traditional practice as a ritual of transformation. »Mercedes Matrix« was a production of the 2018 KRASS Festival, and the car was dismantled at Kampnagel Piazza. In perspective, Selma Selman is to disassemble an airplane and receycle the recyclable parts as part of the KRASS Festival.
