William Forsythe is a master of questioning his own medium. More than any other choreographer, he has extended the language of dance and created new contexts. Working with his company, which has been based in Dresden and Frankfurt am Main since 2005, he produces choreography, installations and films, and is currently enrolling himself in dance history once again with his research project »Motion Bank«. For the SIDER evening, Forsythe applies the rhythmic inflection of Elizabethan theatre to contemporary dance. Using the soundtrack of a filmed version of a late 16th century tragedy, these intricate patterns of speech are communicated to the performers. This instigates disquieting configurations of incongruous musicality that underscore the drama's themes of analogy and obscuration.
