In the beginning was the word, and the word was the Bible, and the bible became propaganda, and the propaganda became machine. Nicoleta Esinencu’s play uses the best propaganda ever written: the Bible - to develop its own propaganda that mobilizes women to stand against injustice. In the two-part performance, the Moldovan author and director, and her colleague Marie Bues from Stuttgart, examine situations of women in Moldova and Germany, in Western and Eastern Europe, and take a critical, performative stock-take of the different and yet similar situations. Where do we stand after 100 years of the women’s movement?
